Your serial number would place it in the "Garcia" period, but if imported by Garcia it would legally have to have the importer's name and city imprinted on it. No range time on any of them but the Tikka. The Sako 75 (IV) comes in a close third behind the Tikka. It's pretty clear that the L61R is the best of the three with the Tikka 695 coming in a somewhat distant second. Any help with the "A" thing and the Garcia situation as it relates to my serial number would be greatly appreciated.īTW, I bought the L61R because I just had to feel the action and compare it to my other Sako and Tikka. The only other marking on the barrel is the letter "A" on the bottom of the barrel directly in front of the action (only visible with the stock off).Ĭan anyone give me a clue on the "A" marking and also why is there no Garcia marking given the supposed dates of mfg? Even the Sako site warns that these dates are only "indicative" which, I guess, means possibly inaccurate. The barrel has the regular "Finnbear Made in Finland" and the "Sako Cal 30-06".
I have the stock off and there is no Garcia marking or the earlier Firearms International marking (I think that was the name). I have read that Garcia started importing Sakos in 1970, but that there was some crossover years where the guns were not marked as imported by Garcia. The Sako website has a data table for old guns which tells me that my gun (s/n 5189xx) was made between and. I just got the L61R today and I'm trying to figure out the whole pre-Garcia thing. As of today I own a Sako IV, a Tikka M695 and a Sako L61R. You’d be surprised of how much one can find out about a person from just a username on a forum such ad our!
